
Style
is the design direction for a brand. In this exercise, look to define a Style that fully embodies the brand’s personality.


Gather your supplies: a timer, sticky notes, and something to write with. Place the cards on the table image-side up so everyone can see them.


Set the timer for 5 minutes and ask the participants to sort the cards into two sections: Images that embody and reflect the brand and those that don’t. Remove the “no” cards.


Set the timer for 20 minutes. Scan all of the cards and ask everyone about their choices. Record meaning and context on your sticky notes, and group the images into sets.


Narrow in on 1–2 card groups that resonate with the team or client, and align with the brand’s Foundations. Record the image choices and themes. Take a photo to document.
